Goggomobil T250 – Restauro Geral
Car: Goggomobil T250 Category: Restoration Year: 1959 Color: Azul
Goggomobil was a series of microcars produced by Hans Glas GmbH in the Bavarian city of Dingolfing between 1955 and 1969. The engine was air-cooled, two-stroke, two-cylinder, originally moving 250 cc, but later available in increased sizes of 300 cc and 400 cc. Agricultural machinery manufacturers, Hans Glas and his son Andreas were enthralled by the wave of enthusiasm that plagued several German industrialists in the production of small cars and they too designed and built one in the autumn of 1954, taking advantage of the industrial site in Dingolfing, Bavaria. This first model, of the Glas brand – the company’s name was Hans Glas GmbH – with the trade name Goggomobil, was presented at the Bike and Motorcycle Fair, IFMA, and received a very interesting reception. One of the interesting peculiarities of this microbus is that it tried to represent a normal car, although small: it had four wheels, engine compartments and a suitcase highlighted in the body volume, the glazed surface was generous, the doors opened normally for the time – they were of the “suicidal” type – and it had four seats, although shy. It was therefore closer to a Fiat 500 or a BMW 700 than to an Isetta or a Messerschmitt. And the potential audience, who had had a motorbike until then, but had a family to transport – and who could not afford a Volkswagen or an Opel – definitely turned to Goggomobil. As was usual in this class of vehicles, the engine was a 2-stroke, 2-cylinder, 247 cc, developing a maximum power of 13.6 hp. The maximum length of this small vehicle was just over three meters – 3163.5 mm – but theoretically it provided two seats at the front and two at the back. With a nice and conventional aesthetic, the goggomobil was the German microcar with the highest production numbers.
